Dear Academic Staff and Doctoral Students,
We would like to inform you that, as part of the activities carried out by the  Center ofTeaching and Learning of the Warsaw University of Technology, the KOMPAS Teaching Development Platform has been launched. The platform is dedicated to academic teachers and doctoral students of the Warsaw University of Technology. We are starting by offering several workshop-based training sessions related to teaching methodology and digital competencies. These trainings will take place as early as May and June this year. In the near future, the first guides will be made available, enabling everyone to familiarize themselves with the training materials independently. In the longer term, we will introduce solutions supporting the individual development of academic teachers.

The KOMPAS platform allows users to log in using their university CAS account. The login and password are the same as for the USOSWeb system. The platform enables users to browse the available training offer and independently register for a course, workshop, or other types of activities aimed at improving teaching competencies. After each activity that contributes to competence development, a certificate is awarded and automatically saved in the user’s profile on the platform.

In the “Information and Announcements” section of the KOMPAS platform, we will publish updates related to the platform’s development, such as newly added features, but most importantly, information about newly available educational events, such as trainings and workshops. If you would like to stay up to date and receive email notifications, we encourage you to subscribe to the Information and Announcements section. How can you do this? Simply log in to the platform and click the Subscription request on the main page.

The KOMPAS platform will also include answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ). This section will contain information related to the platform and the Center of Teaching and Learning that most often arises in communication with CWD. The Center does not yet have its own website therefore, the most important information has also been included on this platform.

Finally, let’s stay in touch. We once again encourage you to subscribe to the Information and Announcements section on the KOMPAS platform and, if you have any questions, to contact the Center at cwd@pw.edu.pl.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

  • KOMPAS is the Warsaw University of Technology's Teaching Development Platform, run by the Teaching Support Center (CWD). It was created for academic teachers who want to consciously and effectively use modern teaching tools in their daily work with students.

The platform offers e-learning and workshop-based training, covering topics such as using the LeOn platform, designing classes using Moodle, conducting video meetings with BigBlueButton, automated code assessment (CodeRunner, VPL), working with the Jupyter environment, and various forms of knowledge verification—including offline tests.

Completion of the training culminates in a certificate with a verifiable QR code. KOMPAS is a single location for the current CWD training offerings, the edition schedule, and teaching materials.

  • KOMPAS Platform — the Educational Development Platform of the Warsaw University of Technology — is a training system of the LMS (Learning Management System) class, built on Moodle and operated by the Center for Teaching Support (CWD). It has been designed to systematically develop the digital and pedagogical competencies of academic teachers at the Warsaw University of Technology.

Unlike platforms aimed at students, KOMPAS serves as a meta-teaching platform — it teaches academic staff how to consciously and effectively use tools that support their own teaching activities. The offering includes both university systems (LeOn) and a broader ecosystem of educational tools: Moodle with its activities, BigBlueButton for synchronous classes, Jupyter for programming and data analysis, CodeRunner and VPL for automated assessment of student code, as well as various methods of knowledge verification — including offline tests.

KOMPAS supports a layered training model that combines three complementary forms of competency development:

    • Webinars and short e-learning courses available to the entire academic community of WUT, ending with a digital badge — allowing participants to explore topics at a convenient time and place.
    • Blended training combining e-learning with in-person workshops, conducted in smaller groups. The e-learning part enables self-paced learning, while the workshop — guided by a trainer — allows participants to practice tools in real scenarios. Completion results in a certificate with a unique ID and QR code for authenticity verification.
    • Individual mentoring provided by CWD experts — for academic staff who want to develop specific, advanced teaching practices within their own educational context.

KOMPAS, like other Moodle-based platforms, primarily supports an asynchronous learning model in its e-learning components. Participants can adjust their learning pace, revisit materials as often as needed, and access them anytime and anywhere — which is especially important for academic staff balancing training with teaching and research responsibilities. The workshop component complements this flexibility with direct interaction with trainers, hands-on exercises, and discussion of real-life teaching scenarios.

Additionally, the platform serves as a point of contact with CWD — providing information about current training offerings, upcoming schedules, consultation opportunities, and broader initiatives supporting the teaching community of the Warsaw University of Technology.
